Course Description:
This course covers an introduction to laboratory weighing, including:
- Types of mass standards and weights
- Types of balances used in laboratories
- Principles of balance operation
- Best practices for accurate weighing
- Properties and performance specifications of balances
- Procedures for checking and verifying balance functionality
This training includes a hands-on session where participants will have the opportunity to perform some parameters of balance checks (e.g., repeatability, accuracy) and determining minimum weight of balances.

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to
- Explain the assessing balance performance requirement according to USP General Chapter <41> Balances.
- Perform the required repeatability and accuracy assessments as laid out in <41>.
- Assess the minimum weight of various analytical balances to implement good weighing practices.
