
Hosted by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), the 2025 Military Health System Research Symposium (MHSRS) takes place from August 4 – 7, 2025 in Kissimmee, Florida with the theme, “Supporting the Deployed Warfighter through Military Medical Research.” Convening military medical providers, scientists, academics, and industry experts, this conference is DoD’s premier scientific meeting and serves as an opportunity to share information on health, research, and medical advancements among the military community.

Additive Manufacturing in Support of Theater Medical Care

Additive manufacturing, also known as 3D printing, is a potentially transformative technology for medical care, especially in challenging environments like military and disaster zones. This session highlights regulatory and quality considerations for 3D-printed medicines in decentralized manufacturing, providing an overview of the evolving landscape of 3D-printed pharmaceuticals and discussion on how to address quality risks to ensure storage and stability under extreme conditions, and establish new regulatory approaches and testing applications. The session will also highlight current gaps in regulatory science and standard development as well as additive manufacturing and other advanced manufacturing initiatives to support decentralized manufacturing.
